The Wave is the ‘Cadillac’ of the Casper mattress series. Not only is it the thickest, it is also the most luxurious.
Unlike the Casper original and the Casper Essential, the Wave is specially designed to provide premium support to larger bodies, while remaining cool to the touch.
What Type of Mattress is the Casper Wave?
Manufactured by one of the best mattress makers in the world, the Casper Wave is a five layer, 11.5″ thick foam mattress.
The mattress is constructed using several unique design elements to ensure comfortable sleep positioning and to add additional support where it is most needed.
The Wave is the plushest, and thickest, of the Casper series – which includes The Wave, The Casper and the Essential.
The bed owes its cozy feeling to the high-quality polyester and rayon blend of the removable and washable mattress cover.
Beneath the cover, five impressive foam layers help to create a comfortable and restful sleep experience.
How Firm is the Mattress? Will I get a Good Nights Sleep?
As with most foam mattresses, people of different weights and sizes will experience varying degrees of mattress firmness.
Upon first contact, the bed has a plusher feel, this is due largely to the top layer of Flo Foam, with each proceeding layer increasing in firmness.
It should be noted that, while the mattress does have some ‘bounce’ some people report feeling like they are ‘sinking‘ into the bed.
However, this sinking is only minimal, as the foam contours to the body enough to provide the right amount of pressure relief without feeling ‘stuck’.
What About Motion Transfer? Will I Wake my Partner if I Roll Over?
Anyone sharing a bed with a partner is right to consider how well a mattress can absorb movement before making a purchase.
Luckily, the Wave does well to prevent motion transfer under various conditions.
How are the Layers of the Casper Wave?
The Casper Wave is constructed using Casper’s trademarked hyper-targeted support, which offers pressure relief and support at 36 specific points.
It is also the only US-made mattress fully endorsed by the American Chiropractic Association.
And, if that wasn’t enough, the bed is designed using an impressive five-layer foam combination.
The five layers of foam include:
- Flo Foam
- Latex Foam
- PolyFoam w/ Polymer Support
- Contoured PolyFoam Base
Starting from the top, the Flo Foam layer is 1″ of proprietary foam designed to deliver a soft and luxurious feel while providing excellent pressure relief.
It also wicks moisture away from the body and stays cool to the touch.
The second layer, 1.5″ of Latex Foam provides pressure relief and provides ‘bounce’ for sleepers who change positions frequently.
The third layer, 1.5″ of high-quality Memory Foam absorbs movement and responds to body pressure. Memory Foam is well-known for its ability to contour to the body.
One advantage of using Memory Foam near the as a middle layer is that it prevents the build up of heat on the surface.
The fourth layer, 1.5″ of high resiliency PolyFoam works to provide overall body support and provides good transition between softer and firmer mattress layers.
In addition, the PolyFoam and Polymer Support layer facilitates excellent hip support and stops heavier body parts from sinking too far into the bed.
Lastly, the fifth layer, 5.5″ of high density poly foam improves pressure relief capabilities and provides support for multiple sleep positions.
The latex layer is Oeko-Tex certified, and the remaining layers are Certi-Pur certified.
Does the Mattress Sleep Hot
Surprisingly, the original Casper mattress rated better amongst those who sleep hot than the Wave did.
That said, the Wave does use open-cell foam technology to help promote airflow and does provide ‘average’ cooling.
Depending on the ambient temperature of the room, it can take upwards of 10 minutes for the bed to regulate temperature.
What About Off-Gassing? Does the Mattress Smell?
Since there are no harsh chemicals or plastics used in the construction of the mattress, there is nothing inside the bed itself that could cause an unsavory scent. This is guaranteed by the CertiPUR-US certification.
Any odor noticed is more likely to have come from the plastic sheeting used to ship the bed. This smell should dissipate after a couple of days.
If you find the smell overpowering, or you want to speed up the off-gassing process, use a fan to move air around or reach for your favorite fabric freshening spray.
How Long will the Mattress Last?
We expect most foam mattresses to have an average lifespan of ten years; The Wave is no different.
To ensure that you receive the most out of your bed, we recommend it be rotated every 3 to 6 months.
This is especially important for anyone who sleeps only on one side or for partners who differ greatly in weight.
How Should I Care for the Casper Wave?
There are no special requirements for caring for this mattress.
The main suggestion is to use a simple wet cloth with a mild detergent to spot clean any stains, being careful not to push to hard.
Look at our Mattress Care guide for more tips.
Where is the Mattress Made?
Each of the mattresses in their collection are made in one of two facilities – In Georgia and Pennsylvania.
How Big is the Bed? Will it Fit in My Room?
The Wave is 13″ thick (the thickest of the mattresses made by Casper) and comes in the standard sizes, ranging from Twin to California King.
- Twin: 38″ x 75″
- Twin XL: 38″ x 80″
- Full: 53″ x 75″
- Queen: 60″ x 80″

Do I Need a Foundation or a Bedframe?
Any flat, solid and stable surface will support the Wave. Including:
- The floor
- Any solid platform
- Any box spring
- Any foundation
- Bunk beds
- Slatted base
- Any Casper-branded foundation
As you can see, you can use it virtually anywhere. The key is to avoid moist surfaces, as the humidity will damage the cover and might favor the growth of bacteria under the bed.

Casper Wave Mattress Review – Our Verdict
Shipping and returns, within the USA and Canada, are always FREE.
The Wave does well when compared to other foam beds with a similar design and construction.
We appreciate that the mattress is durable and supportive enough to provide pressure relief and full-body support for all sleep positions.
Unlike other foam mattress, the tend to lose their ‘bounce’ or contouring ability when used by people with larger body types, this bed rated very well with heavier set people – and was positively received by partners who differed largely in weight and body size from each other.
We like the addition of a plush cover that adds to the luxurious feel, but that luxury does not come cheap.
In fact, the Wave is priced substantially higher than most other foam mattresses in today’s market.
Even with free shipping (and returns) to customers in the USA and Canada, the hefty starting price tag of $2,025 might be a deterrent to some.
That said, we do love Casper Sleep’s pledge to donate returned mattresses to local charity organizations whenever possible.
