Casper’s line of comfy mattresses  has taken the bed-in-a-box marketing to the next level since its launch in 2014.  The Casper Original mattress started it all for the company, which now offers a range of mattress models in a variety of styles.

The Casper Original is a multi-purpose mattress. Its standout features are comfort, pressure alleviation, and pricing. This is the mattress that helped break off the bed-in-a-box craze, but how does it feel to sleep on it? To find out, keep reading our review!

About Casper Sleep

The Casper’s Original is a renowned foam mattress that combines four layers for a comfortable, long-lasting, and temperature-regulating sleep.  Casper’s devoted technical staff works tirelessly to satisfy their half-million clients . Given its passion and focus, it’s no surprise that Casper is regarded as one of the greatest mattress brands in the country.

Casper is a San Francisco Bay Area-based mattress startup. Every mattress they produce is designed and assembled in the United States. Since their inception in 2013, their attention to detail and focus on designing unique mattress components to improve sleep has swiftly garnered them fans.

If you are looking for an economical, simple, and tastefully constructed combination foam mattress, then you will love the Casper Original, as well as a selection of other Casper products.

Casper Mattress Technology

Casper Original LayersThis Casper model is 11 inches thick and made up of three layers of foam.

The top layer is AirScape, an unique comfort foam that provides a soft yet durable and pressure-relieving surface for the sleeper.  Because of its sluggish response to pressure, this layer provides exceptional conformance . It supports your hips and shoulders, relieving pain in muscles and joints. Although foam might cause overheating, the microscopic perforations on the surface encourage ventilation, allowing heat and moisture to be effectively swept away for a pleasant and comfortable night’s sleep.

The second layer is a  zoned memory foam transition layer that provides tailored support . The layer is separated into three portions, each with different stiffness. It’s softer in head and legs areas for pain-alleviation yet firmer in the middle for added lumbar support and spinal alignment. This layer delivers a considerable lift to the hip area as you change positions, resulting in sinkage and a stuck-in feeling.

The third layer is a  high-density polyurethane foam that provides a solid foundation for the Casper Original . The support layer also offers a fantastic pressure response. This dense base layer adds long-term endurance to the mattress by strengthening the entire design.

Overview of the Casper Mattress

The Casper mattress is a flexible and comfy foam mattress that should be a good fit for a wide range of people. The Zoned Support technology provides more focused support than the average foam mattress.

The Zoned Support system is a memory foam layer that is stronger in the center of the mattress and softer at the head and foot. This unusual design allows the mattress to offer a firmly supportive feel.

Overall, the Casper is a comfy and long-lasting online mattress that earns its place at the top of the bed-in-a-box industry.

Casper Element

Because of its revolutionary Zoned Support concept, Casper’s Original mattress has been a huge success. It is designed to provide extra support for people who sleep on their backs and stomachs, as well as more pressure relief for people who sleep on their sides.

The Casper Element is a cheaper, simpler mattress than the Original Casper, and it lacks the Zoned Support technology. At the same time, it should be a comfortable and cost-effective mattress for a wide range of sleepers.

This mattress always had the lowest price tag of the Casper mattresses.

However, currently, all Element mattress sizes are Out of Stock on Casper website 🙁

Casper Element 4D

Casper Nova Hybrid

Casper’s innovative Zoned Support system was one of the major features that put it on the map. Its transition layer was created to be firmer toward the center, providing additional lumbar support and making the mattress suitable for combination sleepers.

The Casper Nova Hybrid now takes that design to the next level.  Not one, but two zoned foam layers  make up the mattress, providing a fantastic blend of comfort and support. These materials, along with a pair of supportive coils, make the Casper Nova Hybrid an appealing mattress for a wide range of sleepers.

Casper Nova 4D

Casper Wave Hybrid

The Casper Wave Hybrid, as the name implies, is a hybrid mattress with coils and luxurious foam layers on top. It also has a more advanced version of the Casper Original mattress’s Zoned Support technology. Its Zoned Support Max technology provides a comfort and support balance that we haven’t seen in many other mattresses.

While the Casper Wave Hybrid is on the more expensive side, it is a cutting-edge mattress that should be a good fit for a wide range of people.

Materials & Construction

Layers of Comfort

The Casper Original mattress comprises three layers of foam that add up to an 11″ thick mattress. A breathable comfort layer sits on top. This top layer is tough and robust, with a good bounce that quickly returns to its original shape.  Due to the suppleness of the foam, it also provides a softer feel without sinking in . It’s also breathable, meaning it’ll help you avoid overheating.

This top layer replaces the Dunlop latex used in earlier Casper mattress generations. It attempts to offer the same advantages with less expensive material.

A layer of memory foam follows, which molds to the shape of the user’s body. Additionally, it aids in the relief of pressure points, preventing tossing and turning. This factor improves the comfort of the mattress for side sleepers significantly.

Before the base foam, this is the final layer of comfort. It also serves as a nice transition between the top layers and the foundation

Cover & Base Layer

The foundation and durability of the mattress are provided by the base layer, which is made of solid polyfoam. The foundation foam is solid, so it should serve you for many years to come. In addition, it offers the required support for the other layers to carry out their duties.

A  quality woven polyester cover  is used to cover all of these. The cover is soft and has an excellent grip on the mattress. The mattress is also attractively enhanced by the neutral gray and white color scheme. Not only does the Casper Mattress feel spectacular, but it also looks great.

However, we would like to point out that while this mattress gives adequate support for people who sleep on their sides, it may be too firm for those who prefer their shoulders and hips to sink into a softer mattress. Furthermore, when it comes to a heavier person sleeping on this mattress, you may find that it provides less support, especially for stomach sleeping.

Overall, the Casper mattress is quite comfortable. Still, while it will suit many petite to average individuals, it is unlikely to be ideal for everyone.

Casper Mattress Comfort

The Casper mattress has a universal “one size fits all” comfort concept. There is only one comfort level, which is a medium to medium-firm feel that falls somewhere between a ⭐ 6.5 and a 7 on a scale of 1 to 10, with 1 being the softest and 10 being the firmest.

We think this comfort level will work well for the great majority of people. It gives good lumbar support as well as molds nicely to your shoulders and neck, which is a significant plus for back sleepers. It is also sturdy enough for a stomach sleeper to provide the necessary support.

Casper Mattress Performance

Firmness

One of the crucial aspects for mattress buyers is the firmness and feel a given mattress provides. Let’s talk about the firmness of the Casper mattress and how it affects the way it feels for various sleepers.

7 firmness

After extensive testing, we give the Casper mattress a ⭐ 7/10 firmness — making it somewhat stiffer than other mattresses. However, the firmness will vary according to the size of the person sleeping on it. A larger individual may press deeper into the mattress, giving the impression that the Casper is softer. Conversely, a lighter person may not press as deeply, giving the impression that the Casper is a sturdier mattress.

Motion Transfer

Given the nature of the materials, this mattress will provide little motion transfer — as is the case with several other all-foam mattresses.

During our tests, the motion transmission of the Casper mattress was quite low. We found there was minimal partner disruption, which is ideal for couples sleeping in the same bed. This factor makes it an  excellent choice for someone who sleeps with another person  getting in and out of bed at different times during the night. Moreover, it is an enticing option for a light sleeper who doesn’t want to wake up every time another person moves around in bed.

Cool Feeling

The Casper Original mattress contains a few characteristics that help control your body temperature and keep you from overheating while you sleep. The top’s woven stretch knit cover is breathable and aids in the dissipation of heat away from the body. Additionally, because the foam layers are a little firmer, you won’t sink too far into the mattress. As a result, greater circulation aids in the removal of excess heat.

Mattress Cooling

Moreover, the top layer of this Casper mattress is made up of open cells. It supports the removal of heat from the body while also acting as a barrier against the memory foam.

This mattress worked well for us when it came to sleeping. We didn’t notice a rise in the sensation of being overheated. We also felt like we weren’t sinking in too much because the mattress was a little on the firm side.

Edge Support

When you’re looking for a mattress, edge support is the element that’s easy to overlook. However, after you get your mattress home and start using it, it usually turns out to be a very useful feature.

If you sit on the edge of your bed for whatever reason, like to sleep close to the edge, or share the bed and need to use the entire sleeping surface, edge support is crucial.

👉 What to Focus On When Choosing Your Next Mattress?

While testing the Casper mattress, we discovered that the  edge support is similar to that of most online all-foam mattresses , which is fine but does not provide the same level of edge support as a regular innerspring mattress.

Young woman is lying on the mattress.

All in all, the Casper is fine for people who like to sleep on the edge, as you’ll be able to use the entire edge-to-edge surface without sinking in. The  Casper’s edges are also comfy to rest on , so you can carve yourself some personal space without fear of rolling off in the middle of the night. Nonetheless, if you intend to use the edge for more than just putting your socks on, it may not provide enough support over time.

Noise

Because the Casper is an all-foam bed, there are no bouncy springs to produce noise when you move. This factor makes it a noiseless mattress — a valid choice for those who move around or frequently change positions at night.

Pain Reduction

👉 Best Mattress for a Bad Back

For individuals with back pain, proper spinal alignment is critical to reducing the risk of worsening pain. The Casper Original is one of the best beds for people with back problems who are light or average weight. It is designed to keep the spine correctly supported in every sleeping position. The soft comfort layer that supports the body and the Zoned Support transition layer play the primary role here.

Correct and Incorrect Sleeping Position

Sex

Even though foam mattresses aren’t recognized for their sensitivity, Casper’s responsive foams make it a good sex mattress. Sexual partners should have no issues repositioning during sex.

Best Mattress for Sex

Off-Gassing

Off-gassing refers to the chemical-like, nail-polish-remover odor that your foam mattress may have right after it’s been unboxed. While we did have this issue with Casper, it did go away after a few hours of airing out the mattress.

Casper Mattress Basics

Delivery

The first thing you’ll want from your new Casper mattress is to unpack it and set it up. It should arrive promptly and in a somewhat compact box, at least for a mattress. It may take two pairs of hands to transfer it where it needs to go.

The mattress  weighs roughly 71 pounds and is a little difficult to maneuver on your own . It should just take a couple of minutes to get it out of the box, remove the plastic, and bring it to reality once you’ve gotten it to where you’ll be sleeping.

When most boxed mattresses are allowed to unroll and acquire shape, they will emit a slight odor — you can expect the same in this case.  There will be some off-gassing during the unboxing process, but it should be negligible . It should be alright in a few hours, but if you are particularly sensitive to certain scents, you should definitely let it breathe for 12 to 24 hours.

When putting your new mattress together, you’ll need a foundation that provides a flat, even surface that can hold both the mattress and the sleepers’ weight. It must also be the appropriate height for you and aesthetically pleasing.

Warranty and Trial Period

Casper Sleep 10 Year Limited Mattress Warranty

Your new Casper mattress is covered by a 10 year limited warranty (the “Mattress Warranty”). This limited Mattress Warranty gives you specific legal rights, and you may also have other rights which vary from state to state.

Casper

Casper has long offered a  100-night sleep trial , providing relief to anyone hesitant about purchasing a bed online. It’s not a problem to return your mattress if it isn’t what you need it to be. Casper is a breeze to work with and provides excellent customer service, assuring that your mattress can be readily returned and refunded if you don’t get the rest you require.

They also provide a  ten-year warranty . This warranty is similar to most warranties that come with any mattress purchased in a store or online. It ensures that your mattress will be free of defects or manufacturing issues for the duration of its life. This feature makes purchasing a bed without seeing it with your own eyes considerably more secure.

Below are the details of what Casper does and does not cover.

What does Casper limited Mattress Warranty cover?
  • Deterioration causing the Mattress to have a visible indentation greater than one (1) inch that is not associated with an indentation or sag which results from use of an improper or unsupportive foundation or adjustable bed base. Normal wear requires that a Mattress be continuously supported by a matching foundation or adjustable bed base with a proper bed frame sufficient to support the collective weight of the Mattress and foundation.
  • Any physical flaw in the Mattress that causes the foam material to split or crack, despite normal usage and proper handling.
  • Any manufacturing defect in the zipper assembly of the Mattress Cover.
What does Casper limited Mattress Warranty NOT cover?
  • A normal increase in softness of the foam pressure-relieving material which does not affect the pressure-relieving qualities of the Mattress.
  • Comfort preference.
  • Physical abuse or damage to the structure and/or cover material, including but not limited to, burns, cuts, tears, liquid damage, or stains; provided, that the defect is caused by such abuse or damage.
  • Damage caused by commercial use, such as in a hotel or store – unless you are a Trade Customer.
  • Replacement of any non-defective pieces in the Casper sleep system (for example, if you purchase a mattress with multiple components and only one component is defective, then we will only replace the defective component).
  • Any mattress (whether manufactured by Casper or not) sold by resellers who are not authorized retailers.
  • Mattresses sold “as-is”, “preconditioned”, “reconditioned”, “used”, “comfort return”, “returned”, “previously owned”, or any other similar wording indicating that the Mattress is not “new” or of “first quality”, or has previously been purchased or used by another consumer.

Casper Mattress Review — Our Final Verdict

The Casper mattress is a true gem that has permanently altered the mattress market. We believe that this all-foam mattress is a fantastic choice for anyone looking for a medium-firm bed with just the right amount of reaction and bounce. Its pricing remains competitive, and the trial period and warranty are always welcome.

After this thorough review, we decided to give the Casper Mattress a rating of ⭐ 4.3 out of 5. We hope that this in-depth Casper mattress review has given you enough information to make an educated decision about your next mattress purchase.
