The Layla is one of the most popular and innovative memory foam mattresses you can find, as it is a flippable mattress that provides sleepers with two firmnesses in one. Read on and check out our Layla mattress review!

About Layla Mattress

Layla Mattress Promo

Layla’s aesthetic and a few important features of their mattress design were changed at the beginning of 2019. Not only did this result in a more appealing mattress, but it also added to its practicality. The most significant change is the functionality of the mattress cover.

Before the changes were introduced, changing the mattress’s firmness wasn’t as simple as just flipping the mattress over. The cover had to be taken off before the mattress could be turned and the cover replaced, meaning that switching sides could be a bit difficult and time-consuming.  Luckily, both sides are now clearly labeled, and you do not have to take the cover off to flip it , making it easier to tell which side is which and speeding the entire process up.

You could perhaps assume that other changes were made with Layla’s relaunch, but why mess with a good thing? Aside from the cover, the mattress’s construction is the same, providing you with the same level of comfort and tried-and-true materials. In short, the changes made to the Layla mattress made it even better than it used to be!

An Overview of the Layla Mattress

closeup of the Layla double coverThe Layla is famous for the fact that it is a flippable mattress. It has a soft side that relieves pressure and a solid side that gives superb support. It goes beyond that, though. The Layla is a really comfy memory foam mattress with some unique cooling features.

The Layla mattress has a lot going on, and its flippable construction makes it ideal for a variety of sleeping positions. It should provide you with the comfort and support that you need, no matter whether you are a back sleeper or a side sleeper.

Who Would Love the Layla Mattress

  • People who sweat a lot. The copper elements in the mattress keep you cool, allowing you to sleep peacefully.
  • Indecisive buyers. If you’re not sure whether you like a softer or firmer mattress, Layla allows you to experience both, thanks to the fact that it is flippable. In fact, it is one of the mattress’s finest qualities!
  • Stomach sleepers. With a firmer side available, this mattress is an ideal choice for stomach sleepers.
  • Side sleepers. If you are a side sleeper, Layla’s soft side can provide you with both comfort and adequate pressure relief!

Who Might Not Like the Layla Mattress

  • People who don’t like memory foam. If you don’t like memory foam, the Layla memory foam mattress might not be the option for you.
  • Petite people. You may discover that the firmer side of the mattress does not adjust to your body enough to provide you with a good night’s sleep.
  • Stocky people. The softer side of the Layla is perhaps not best suited for heavier people, as they sink too far into the mattress. If you fall somewhere in the middle when it comes to weight, though, this mattress will be perfect for you.

What Is the Layla Mattress Like to Sleep On?

Both sides of the Layla mattress were fairly soft in previous iterations. However, we’ve discovered that the Firm side is now, well, more firm. On our firmness scale, it’s around a medium to medium-firm, with a medium-soft on the softer side.

Layla Mattress Firmness

Because Layla has so much memory foam,  it can provide you with superior pressure relief on both sides , especially on the soft side.

Since you’ll sink into the material, lying down on this mattress feels like a light and fluffy hug. It doesn’t have a quicksand-like feel to it, and it’s very comfy, which reminded us of the previous iterations of the Puffy mattress.

Construction & Materials

The Layla is a  ten-inch all-foam mattress with four layers of quality foam . They were combined to create a two-sided, flippable mattress that provides both a soft and firm sleeping surface.

The structure of this mattress resembles that of a sandwich, in a way. The bed’s core support is in the center, with comfort foams on either side to provide you with an appropriate level of comfort and firmness.

The mattress’s center, or core, is four inches of Base Foam, which  provides excellent motion isolation and optimal support  that will adapt to your body’s needs, no matter which side of the mattress you decide to sleep on.

In addition, one inch of Copper Infused Memory Foam is placed over the core foam on the firm side. This combination creates a mattress that can relieve pressure yet will not allow you to sink into the mattress too deeply.

The softer side is made up of three inches of Copper Infused Memory Foam and two inches of Max Airflow Support Foam, which can provide you with amazing pressure relief and can dissipate heat, resulting in a soft mattress that can adjust to the shape of your shoulders and hips while you are sleeping on the side. All of this is protected by a breathable and soft cover.
the mattress' layers

How Is The Layla Mattress Structured?

The Layla mattress is made up of 4 layers:

  • 3″ Comfort Layer (Soft side up): 3″ of high density immersed memory foam to provide cooling & improve blood circulation
  • 2″ Air Flow Layer: 2″ of convoluted foam that provides airflow & support for the comfort layers on each side
  • 4.5″ Base Support Foam: 4.5″ of 2.0 ILD PolyBase foam to provide overall support for the mattress in both comfort configurations
  • 1″ Comfort Layer (Firm side): 1″ of the same high-density copper immersed memory foam as 3″ layer.

A beautifully soft, yet cool ThermoGEL cover wraps everything up.

How Does the Layla Mattress Work for Different Sleeping Positions?

Back Sleepers

Back Sleepers

The softer side of the mattress isn’t recommended for back sleepers, as proper firmness and support are required to keep their spines aligned. However, the firm side of the mattress should  provide enough support for light and average-weight back sleepers , ensuring proper spinal alignment and helping to relieve back pain.

In our opinion, the mattress’s all-foam construction makes it rather unsuitable for heavyweight back sleepers, as they might not find it to be comfortable enough.
Side Sleepers

Side Sleepers

This mattress delivers excellent performance when it comes to accommodating side sleepers, no matter which side of the mattress you are sleeping on, but we highly recommend sleeping on its softer side.
Stomach Sleepers

Stomach Sleepers

We believe that the Layla mattress is excellent for back and stomach sleepers who weigh less than 230 pounds and do not like sleeping on a really firm mattress. On the soft/stiff scale, the firm side is somewhere between medium and medium-firm.

Having said that, if you weigh under 150 pounds and are not that tall, the bed will likely seem much firmer to you, as the mattress’s firmness is affected by your height-to-weight ratio. The less you weigh and the shorter you are, the more uncomfortable the mattress is likely to be.
Mixed Position Sleepers

Combination Sleepers

Combination sleepers, or those who change positions throughout the night, require a flexible bed that accounts for effortless movement and position adjustments. If you’re a light or average-weight combination sleeper, this mattress should be relatively responsive, particularly on the firm side.

Performance of the Layla Mattress

Cooling

Despite the fact that all-foam mattresses have a bad reputation when it comes to heat retention and making people feel suffocated,  Layla has a number of innovative cooling features  that can help keep hot sleepers comfortable all night.

The Thermogel-cooling technology found in the cover keeps the bed cold to the touch. Furthermore, each firmness level’s comfort layer has copper-infused foam that has both antibacterial and cooling properties.

Edge Support

A photo of the edge of Layla Sleep

For an all-foam bed, we found Layla’s edge support to be excellent. When you sit directly on the edge of the mattress, Layla’s edges will sink only a little bit.

The Layla mattress will provide you with better-than-average edge support.

Maintenance and Durability

Layla is built of extremely durable mattress materials, ensuring that it will last you a long time. It is made of high-quality memory foam and copper, which makes for a mattress that can serve you for many years to come.

In fact, the mattress is expected to last ten to twelve years, according to the manufacturer. And, if everything else fails, there’s a lifetime warranty that you can make use of.

We recommend rotating the Layla mattress from top to toe at least monthly to keep it in good condition.

If you do this every time you switch your sheets, you’ll get an even better result. You can remove and dry clean the cover when necessary, too. That way, it won’t lose any of its softness.

Off-gassing

You may detect a slight odor while unwrapping the plastic that the mattress is covered with upon leaving the factory. It should dissipate in a short period of time, though. If you are particularly sensitive, opening the window and airing out the room that the unpacked mattress is in should help deal with the odor faster.

Noise

The Layla mattress generates almost no noise as you move around on it. It is more of a concern with hybrid mattresses and innerspring mattresses, but with mattresses like the Layla, noisiness is not really an issue.

Motion Transfer

Mattress materialOne of the greatest things about an all-foam bed is how little motion transfer there is. That’s exactly what this memory foam mattress does. The Layla has a strong, dense foam core that provides support without producing any vibrations when you move around on it. As a result, the Layla is an excellent choice for anyone who sleeps with a spouse or a pet. It’s also ideal for couples who have different sleep cycles or for light sleepers who are quickly woken.

The firmer side of the mattress will provide you with the least amount of vibration, making motion transfer even less of an issue. So, if you are searching for a mattress with excellent motion isolation, the Layla will be an excellent pick!

Layla Company Policies

In addition, the Layla comes with a limited lifetime warranty that goes above and beyond what the mattress industry norm is. Because of that, you can be assured that you are buying a high-quality mattress!

Comparing Layla to Other Mattresses

We’d like to compare the Layla mattress to other similar mattresses. Make sure to check out all of our comparisons to see how Layla compares to its competitors!

Layla vs. Layla Hybrid

Read more 👉 Layla Hybrid Review.

The support layer is the key difference here between Layla and the Layla Hybrid. The Layla has base foam, while the Layla Hybrid has support coils. Despite the differences in construction, the mattresses are equal in terms of firmness and comfort. They each have a soft side and a firm side.

Layla vs. Nectar

Both of those memory foam beds are well-suited to a wide range of body types and sleeping positions. However, we recommend the Layla if you want a flippable memory foam mattress with a soft, fluffy memory foam feel or if you’re a side sleeper.

Layla vs. Casper Mattress

Both the Layla and the Casper are all-foam mattresses, but they differ in several ways. The Layla can be flipped, whereas the Casper cannot. On the other hand, the Casper has an innovative zonal design, whilst the Layla does not.

It is also worth noting that Layla’s soft side is softer than Casper’s soft side, and Layla’s firm side is firmer than Casper’s firm side. Other than that, the Layla has a more typical memory foam feel, while the Casper has a much more evenly distributed foam feel. For side sleepers, as well as those who prefer to burrow into their mattress, the Layla is definitely going to be the better choice.

Is the Layla Mattress Worth It?

Overall, the Layla Mattress received outstanding ratings for both of its sides. It combines the best of both worlds, with a soft, smooth side for side sleepers and a firmer side for stomach sleepers. It’s also an excellent alternative for individuals who aren’t sure which option will work best for them.

It’s also one of the best mattresses for people who sleep hot, as the copper-infused materials help balance the mattress’s temperature. Additionally, it is quite affordable. So, when you consider all of the benefits you’re getting for the price of that mattress, you can rest assured that you’re getting good value for your money. And if you end up feeling dissatisfied, you can always return it. To sum up, we hope you found this Layla Mattress review to be informative!
