About Saatva Mattress
The Saatva Classic mattress is a popular premium innerspring hybrid and the flagship model from Saatva — a sleep company based in New York. Saatva became identified with high-end mattresses at cheap rates after being one of the first brands to enter the inexpensive luxury internet mattress market.
Such competitive pricing is achievable since Saatva is basically an online-only firm. So, it side-steps any storefront fees and instead claims to put those substantial savings into materials and manufacturing. Compared to its competitors, the Saatva Classic’s price tag appears to be impressively affordable given the quality and materials used.
Saatva Mattress Overview
You get three different feel options with the Saatva — Plush Soft, Luxury Firm, and Firm . Each of these is made using the highest-quality materials, providing adequate support and pressure relief.
Then the company goes out of its way to make the purchasing process as simple as possible by using a white glove delivery service to transport and set up your brand new mattress. This makes the whole process more manageable for you and ensures the design and integrity of the mattress’s materials are preserved.
The Saatva bed is available in two height options — an 11.5-inch mattress and a 14.5-inch mattress. You can choose whether you want a thinner or thicker mattress without affecting your sleep comfort.
In addition, the Saatva mattress is naturally cooler than its all-foam counterparts . Its coil on coil structure retains very little heat and dissipates it quickly. Individually wrapped coils are also used in this mattress to ensure little movement. They even go as far as incorporating multilayer foam encasement. This results in a robust, functional mattress that has excellent edge support.
Pricing
Saatva prides itself on offering the highest quality luxury mattress at the best price.
Their business model aims at cutting out the middleman to reduce the price to the end-user further, so the best place to purchase is the manufacturer’s website itself.

Saatva Is Great For
- Classic Innerspring Sleepers — This bed comprises not one but two innerspring units, which use both connected and individually packaged coils to provide an updated take on the classic feel.
- Affordable Luxury Shoppers — Saatva tries to show that luxury doesn’t have to come from a store. Their mattress range was created to please tall silhouettes, classy designs, and long-lasting constructions — all without exceeding the budget.
- Heavier People — The Saatva Classic offers plenty of support for sleepers searching for a more durable bed. The business has recently released an HD variant developed exclusively for plus-size sleepers weighing more than 300 pounds.
Considerations for the Saatva
- It doesn’t arrive in a box — If you search for a mattress that can be compacted into a little box, this isn’t the brand for you.
On the other hand, it offers complimentary white glove delivery so that you can leave the hard lifting to the pros. - The foundation coils are connected — Individually wrapped coils have a lot to offer, and the bed’s first innerspring layer features motion-isolating, modern construction for more customized support.
By using connected coils in the foundation, the company shows its focus on improving durability.

Split California King | Two 38" x 80" pieces |
As we already mentioned above, you can select from two different mattress thicknesses, 11.5” and 14.5”, which, by the way, cost the same.
A choice of mattress thickness is offered for purely aesthetic reasons. For example, if you have a short headboard, it would look best to have the 11.5” mattress.
One great feature of Saatva mattresses is that the Queen and King mattresses are also offered as split mattresses, so getting it through the door is never a problem .
The split feature of the mattress is purely for delivery and will not take away from the mattress’s performance, nor will you ever feel the split.
Performance
In this comprehensive review, we will look at the Saatva mattress in detail. We’ll begin by examining how and from what materials this mattress is constructed. Then we’ll check how the comfort works in each of the three available options, as well as the mattress’s other features.
Materials & Construction
It is crucial to start with the construction to learn how a mattress can provide greater comfort and other advantages . Examining the Saatva’s materials and structure can help you better comprehend not only the bed’s quality, but also the comfort, motion transfer, and edge support it will provide.
Comfort Layers
There are two different heights for the Saatva mattress. The thickness of the higher profile is 14.5′′, while the thickness of the lower profile is 11.5′′.
Both of these mattresses are made of the same materials and will feel similar, but they differ in appearance and functionality. They offer a 2.5-inch euro-style pillow top as their top layer. This soft, fluffy comfort layer is integrated right into the cover.
A memory foam lumbar support enhancement layer (of 1-inch height) sits beneath the top layer. It is another layer of comfort that helps relieve strain on the lower back as well as any stress or tension.
The first set of coils is placed after that. Individually wrapped coils total 884 (in a Queen-size variant). These coils are designed to adapt to your body’s movements and mold to them. They serve as a layer of support and comfort, and they give the impression of being ultra-luxurious.
Support Layers
416 Everflex coils (in a Queen-size mattress) make up the foundation support system. These hourglass-shaped coils provide a sturdy core that resists sagging and lasts for a long time. They offer excellent body support while also maintaining the mattress’s base. There are two perimeter edge support systems on the outside of this mattress. The mattress’s rigid encasement structure provides a long-lasting and entirely usable edge-to-edge sleep surface. It preserves the coils and offers the sleeper a sturdy yet homogeneous feel.
Cover
All of this is encased in a lovely, breathable organic cotton cover . The euro-style pillow top is held in place by this cover, which is smooth against the rest of the mattress. It also adds a layer of cushion and comfort while maintaining a great clean look. This cover looks and feels similar to the other Saatva brand covers. It’s soft and natural, making for a lovely and comfortable mattress.
Mattress Comfort

Comfort is undoubtedly the most crucial factor for anyone in the market for a new mattress. You’ll need it to receive the sleep and rest you deserve.
As we mentioned before, the Saatva mattress is available in three different comfort levels: Plush Soft, Luxury Firm, and Firm.
- Plush Soft
- Luxury Firm
- The firm
Below, we’ll take a more detailed look at each of Saatva’s three comfort options to help you determine which one is ideal for you.
Plush Soft
The plush option will be the softest , and it will most likely be the best choice for dominant side sleepers. It’s also ideal for back sleepers who prefer a softer surface.
👉 What Does Your Sleep Position Say About Your Personality?
This choice provides the same level of support as the next one, but the foams have a little more give to help you feel more cocooned . It is an excellent alternative for someone who likes more contour and falls between a three and a four on the firmness scale.
In our opinion, this version is for side sleepers that like to feel enveloped in their bed and often have trouble with their arms falling asleep before they do. The plush soft model will support your hips and shoulders while elongating your spine and keeping it straightened.
According to Saatva website, it’s great for:
- Those who know they like a soft, cushiony feel
- Lighter-weight people who often find mattresses to be too firm
- Side sleepers who like extra contouring
Luxury Firm
The luxury firm is the most popular of the three possibilities. It feels like a medium bed and is suitable for all sleeping positions, sizes, and forms . It is also a perfect compromise between sufficient support and optimal comfort.
Back, stomach, and even side sleepers will appreciate the luxurious, firm feel. It’s strong and supportive but versatile and adaptive, with just the right amount of plushness. This option would be a ⭐ 5 to 6.5 on a firmness scale of 10, with one being the softest and ten being the firmest.
When testing this comfort level, we found that it is the same comfort level found in the finest hotels in the world , where side, stomach, or back sleepers feel equally comforted.
👉 The Best Mattress for Stomach Sleepers
If the plush soft model is too contouring for you, but you still want some give from your mattress, then going with the luxury firm model will be the best pick for you. This is the perfect comfort level for couples with different sleep needs or people who currently find themselves constantly changing positions at night.
According to Saatva website, it’s great for:
- A perfect balance of comfort and uplifting support
- Couples who can’t agree on a firmness level
- Every range of sleep style
Firm
If you sleep on your stomach or back most of the time, or prefer a denser, firmer mattress, the Firm option is for you. This bed is quite supportive and suitable for everyone who prefers to sleep on the bed’s surface. On the firmness scale, this mattress receives an 8.
We think that if you find that the luxury firm version of the mattress (which falls into the average medium-firm mattress) isn’t supportive enough and has too much give, then you need a firmer mattress. The Saatva firm mattress will be the perfect choice for you.
According to Saatva website, it’s great for:
- Those who know they want a very firm mattress
- Back and stomach sleepers or heavier body types

The Benefits of Saatva Mattress
Though comfort is the most critical factor to consider when shopping for a new mattress, numerous other advantages will help you sleep better.
A few that we deem particularly useful are i solating motion, maintaining temperature neutrality , and providing robust and long-lasting edge support.
The Saatva excels in all of these areas. Read on to see how it performs in these and other elements!
Motion Transfer
👉 What to Focus On When Choosing Your Next Mattress?
We saw very minimal motion transmission on this mattress. A coil mattress will naturally have more spring, but the Saatva’s top layer of coils is individually wrapped. As a result, the sensation of any vibrations is substantially decreased.
Furthermore, a layer of memory foam sits just above the comfort coils. It provides additional comfort while absorbing any vibrations that aren’t already muted by the wrapped coils.
The top cover also includes a euro pillow top, offering a lovely cushion. Much like the top cover, it helps eliminate or minimize any disturbance to your spouse.
Overall, this mattress has extremely little motion transfer, so general movements and shifting should be barely noticed, especially if you share a mattress with your partner.
Cool Sleeping
If you sleep hot, this mattress will not disappoint you. The Saatva mattress offers a coil-on-coil system, producing a supportive layer that is also incredibly breathable.Using two coil systems instead of only one increases the airflow, and heat is dissipated rather than trapped.
Because the coil system is placed just beneath the layer of memory foam, any heat trapped by the foam will be able to escape.
Moreover, a plush euro top with an organic cotton cover on the surface will provide additional softness. It also works as a permeable barrier that separates the memory foam from the user.
No Off-Gassing
When you buy bed-in-a-box mattresses, you’ll notice they produce a unique odor throughout the first few weeks of ownership. While the smell does dissipate, some people may be bothered by it.
Fortunately, our Saatva mattress did not produce any off-gassing. It is not securely compressed when you receive it because it comes uncompressed. With this said, you should anticipate being able to sleep soundly on the Saatva during the first night it comes to your home.
Edge Support
Around the bed’s perimeter, the Saatva mattress incorporates a reinforced foam-wrapped edge support system. This encasement creates a highly robust and usable sleep surface from edge to edge.
You shouldn’t notice any difference in how the mattress feels whether you sleep in the center or close to the edge. If you sit on the edge of your mattress, the increased stability around the edge provides additional support.
Pressure Relief
The 3-inch extremely responsive euro top and individually wrapped coils that can mold to your shape for a comfortable cradle are the cornerstones of Saatva’s pressure reduction strategy. The plush foam reduces pressure on the shoulders, while the memory foam layer’s lumbar contouring tempers the extra boost of support in the mattress’s center.
Those looking for extra pressure relief may prefer the Plush Soft variant, which provides additional cushions to alleviate painful joints and accommodate curvier body shapes.
180-Night Home Trial

Source: https://www.saatva.com/mattresses/saatva-classic
Saatva understands you don’t get the chance to try out their product before making your purchase decision. That’s why they offer a 180-night sleep trial . It allows you a full six months to decide if this is truly the right sleep solution for you.
Your trial starts on your delivery date. After that, if for any reason you aren’t completely satisfied with the product, you can expect a full refund without having to worry about the penalty, pickup, or restocking fees.
Mattress Pad
The Saatva doesn’t need a mattress pad. The 3″ European pillow top should be enough for every individual’s comfort.
Adding an extra mattress pad is discouraged with Saatva mattresses – it can degrade the performance level of the mattress firmness selected.
The pillow top is an organic cotton knit top with 1.25” of super-soft foam and Dacron, plus 3/4” of quilt fill fiber.
Bed Foundation
Saatva recommends that you use a foundation with its mattresses for maximum comfort, anti-sagging, and durability. They offer 4” and 8” foundations that can be purchased with the mattress, but you can use your existing box spring or foundation if it is in good condition, meaning it is sturdy and does not have any sag around or within the support area.
The bonus is that if you decide to use your box spring or foundation, Saatva might keep your warranty in place, something most other manufacturers do not allow. We recommend using their adjustable base called Lineal for best support explicitly made for the Saatva mattress. You can read our Lineal review here.
How Does the Saatva Mattress Compare to Others?
When shopping for a new mattress, comparing different options is usually a good idea. Let’s examine how the Saatva matches up against some of its main rivals.
Casper vs. Saatva
The most apparent difference between the Saatva and Casper mattresses is their construction. The Saatva is an innerspring mattress, whereas the Casper is an all-foam mattress. It means these mattresses will have a different sensation, with sleepers feeling more “in” the Casper and less “on top” of the Saatva.
Saatva vs. DreamCloud
The Saatva and DreamCloud appear pretty similar at first glance — both have coils and then plushier layers on top. However, there are a few differences. The Saatva is available in three firmnesses and two heights, while the DreamCloud is only available in one hardness and height.
Back sleepers, stomach sleepers, and those who want to sleep “on top” of their mattress should consider the Saatva in this scenario. The DreamCloud Premier mattress is better designed for side sleepers and those who wish to sink a little deeper into their mattress.
Saatva vs. WinkBeds
Because the Saatva and WinkBed mattresses are so similar, choosing between them is challenging. Both mattresses are innerspring mattresses with two sets of coils and a cushion top, and they come in multiple firmness options.
The primary difference is the price. The Saatva mattress costs around $300 less than the WinkBed mattress in a Queen size. The Saatva mattress is a good option for people trying to save money on their purchases. Still, both mattresses will work for fans of innerspring mattresses and those who sleep in various positions.
Final Verdict — Should You Get the Saatva Mattress?
Choosing a suitable mattress at a fair price has been considerably more manageable since the development of the online business model. To give its clients just that, Saatva has pioneered numerous industry firsts. They provide a high-quality mattress at a fraction of the price of comparable alternatives sold in stores, and they use some of the best materials available.
Saatva is a mattress that allows users to move around freely while sleeping. You can expect this mattress to endure a long time due to the high quality of the materials utilized. If you are overweight or have a sleeping partner, this is an excellent option. Overall we give the Saatva Mattress a rating of ⭐ 4.5 out of 5.

If I buy my own platform bed what are the requirements to hold the mattress and do I need a foundation?
I purchased a 14″ King Mattress about a year and a half ago. After leaving a review stating the sagging I was experiencing and the lump across the center, I received an email and phone call within 24 hrs. The representative was extremely kind and helpful. I was granted a new mattress at no charge. Within 2 weeks the mattress arrived and they took the old one away. The mattress feels amazing. I have never had customer service like this before. I am wholeheartedly satisfied all the way around. I would highly recommend this company to anyone.
I purchased a Saatva Luxury Firm Queen Mattress online yesterday. Expecting delivery in about a week. I chose the Saatva based on reviews from many sites. I wish I saw this site before I made the purchase as I would have definitely given strong consideration to another mattress maker. I can only say if the Saatva mattress is not what Saatva claims it to be, I will be returning it for a full refund. I’m fed up with purchasing expensive mattresses that promise a good night’s rest, but fail to deliver.
Following up on my above post. Once my Saatva “Luxury Firm” queen mattress was set up I laid down on it. Let me just say that if this mattress was in a showroom and I laid on it, I would have moved on to another mattress. Were Saatva ever came up with the “Luxury” part I will never know. The only reason I won’t be returning this mattress at this point is that I had a 1.5″ foam mattress topper that I have placed on the mattress. This made all the difference in the world. With the foam topper, I have no issues sleeping on the mattress. If the new Saatva mattress starts to sag like some people have experienced, I will return it.
On the plus side, there was no off-gassing from the mattress. No noticeable smell at all.
To be honest, all mattresses have a “Break In” period. The mattresses that people test in stores have been “TESTED” and “BROKEN IN”. I have the 15″ plush soft California King for 2 years. When I first got it, I felt the same way you did. I called Saatva and they sent a mattress topper for free and told me to use it while I am “breaking” in the bed. I did that and I have to say after a month, I was in bed heaven. I took off the topper off and I have had no problems. I am a side sleeper and weigh 250. I was also told to sleep on the entire bed the first day. Which I do!
I love this mattress. I had a memory foam mattress for the last 4 or 5 years. Although it was comfy enough it slept so hot I felt like an Hawaiian pig in a roasting pit. I was just horrible. So on the recommendation of a neighbor who had purchased a Saatva mattress and after speaking about it not sleeping “hot” with customer service, I ordered the plush soft bc I like a softer mattress. You can’t go wrong with the return policy. One of the best things I’ve ever purchased.
Has anyone with back/hip pain who found the Saatva mattresses way too firm (even the soft plush one) tried the Dreamcloud? They say it’s a 6.5, but it has tons of layers of foam and only one set of coils.
I have the luxury firm and my hips and shoulders hurt me while sleeping. I waited too long for the trial and now I’m stuck. I am very disappointed, they even sent me a foam topper which did nothing. They did double the trail and unfortunately I mixed up the months. When I called I was 3 weeks over so they would do a one time courtesy change but would not refund the money. So 5-7 years more of pain.
Let me ask a question. How is your foundation? My friend had the same issue and we realized it was her foundation. She thought it was in good shape and only purchased the mattress, but when she tested it by putting the mattress on the floor, she found she slept better. No hip back pain. She has the Luxury firm too, because she is a combo sleeper
