Brentwood Home Cypress Mattress Review

Summary

For years, the struggle of people seeking a high-quality foam mattress has mainly been in terms of comfort.

When we look at the Brentwood Cypress Memory Foam Mattress, though, we see both quality and affordability.

Since many people might be turned down by the heat and sinkage levels of a foam mattress, they will be glad to know that a hybrid option exists.

As a whole, though, this mattress is one of the best affordable foam beds on the market.

Pros:

  • Both all-foam and hybrid options ready
  • Charcoal-infused memory foam
  • Very affordable - Queen size starts at just $599 for the 11" all-foam model
  • 25-year warranty
  • 1-year home trial

Cons:

  • All foam might be too soft and hot for some

As an extremely affordable, comfortable, and cool mattress, the Brentwood Home Cypress Memory Foam mattress is a good choice for nearly anyone that is looking for a simple mattress.

The Brentwood Home Cypress mattress offers two options: the all-foam or the hybrid style.

From there, customers can customize their purchase with either an 11” top or 13” top, depending on how firm they would like their mattress.

What Type of Mattress is the Cypress Memory Foam?

The Brentwood Home Cypres mattres in a clear roomThe Cypress Memory Foam mattress is an affordable all-foam or hybrid construction with two height/comfort options: The Classic 11” or the Luxe 13”.

The foam option is charcoal-infused for breathability and temperature control, while the hybrid is focused more on providing support with an innerspring coil system.

With the recent 2020 update, the mattress offers better breathability at an even better price.

This is one of the many mattresses in the Brentwood Home line.

Other options include the Cedar, Crystal Cove, and Hybrid Latex.

How Firm is this Mattress?

Because the mattress comes in two different constructions along with different heights, there is a varying degree of firmness.

Hybrid mattresses tend to be more firm while all-foam mattresses are sure to allow for more cushion and softness.

Building up the height with an optional extra 2” will also make the mattress feel softer.

Without factoring in the type of mattress, the 11” top ranks at about a 7 on the firmness scale, while the 13” top would rank at about a 5.5 on the scale.

Even though firmness is relative depending on what you like, you can expect the memory foam 13” top to feel the softest and the hybrid 11” to feel the most firm.

How Many Layers Does it Have?

The Brentwood Cypress Memory Foam mattress is the simplest option that Brentwood Home offers with only three layers (although the corner with the brand labelcombined with the optional hybrid construction and 2” top, it becomes more customizable).

The all-foam mattress starts with a high-density foam base, which then transitions into a 2” layer of Airlux foam.

This layer improves airflow through the mattress to keep the sleeper cool.

The last layer consists of a charcoal foam and more evenly distributes temperature across the bed while providing contouring comfort.

The hybrid mattress, on the other hand, starts with a base of coils before going on to the transitional layer and then a charcoal top layer.

In summary:

  1. High-density foam base
  2. Airlux foam
  3. 8-inch coil system (only on 11-inch Classic Hybrid version)
  4. Charcoal foam.

Does the Cypress Memory Foam Sleep Hot?

Before the updates, there were some complaints about the mattress sleeping quite hot as the heat would get trapped between the thick layers of foam.

With the recent 2020 update, however, this seems to be remedied with the charcoal layers on top.

Instead of trapping heat, the charcoal can keep sleepers dry and cool throughout the night.

A lady setting sheets on the Cypress memory foam mattressHow is Motion Transfer and Sinkage?

With the top foam layers, the Cypress easily minimizes motion transfer – even on the hybrid version.

For couples, this is a nice benefit as partners will not feel the other move every time they switch sleeping positions through the night or get up to go to work early in the morning.

As far as sinkage goes, this can depend on the type of top customer orders.

The 11” will allow for less sinkage as the bottom layers provide more support to lean into, while the 13” will make it feel like there is more to sink into.

Additionally, a hybrid mattress will provide more support than a memory foam mattress would.

Does the Brentwood Home Cypress Mattress Smell When New?

Because this mattress out of the Brentwood lineup does not use as many natural and organic materials, there is a possibility that it will give off some sort of smell when being unpackaged.

This is a pretty common thing for people to have to deal with when purchasing beds in a box, although it is easy to get rid of.

Simply let the mattress air out for a few hours before use, and the smell should go away!

If you are looking for a mattress much less likely to off-gas, we would recommend checking out the organic Cedar mattress or even the Hybrid Latex mattress Brentwood Home offers.

Does it Require a Foundation?

We recommend for any mattress to have a foundation before sleeping on it.

Because the Cypress Memory Foam mattress has a simpler design without being hand-tufted, it is a good idea to use a base that will protect the mattress itself.

You might consider a platform or foundational bed that sets up off the ground or one that Brentwood sells specifically for its mattresses.

If you want an adjustable base, check out our top 5 choices!

What Type of Cover does it Have?

The Cypress Memory Foam mattress utilizes a polyester and spandex fabric for the cover.

The luxury cover

Compared to the often-eco-friendly covers they have used on mattresses like the Oceano or Cedar mattress, this is somewhat disappointing.

While the cover is nice and soft, it can be pretty harmful to the environment in how it is made.

However, when looking at the price of this mattress, it makes sense that Brentwood would need to cut costs in quite a few places to still be able to turn a profit.

How Durable is the Brentwood Home Cypress Mattress?

Because this mattress is not as well constructed or made of as many quality materials as the other Brentwood mattresses, we do not expect the Cypress Memory Foam to last quite as long as its siblings.

However, Brentwood is well known for making lasting mattresses and we expect this one to last about an average lifespan for a typical mattress.

How Much Does the Cypress Memory Foam Cost?

The Cypress Memory Foam mattress is very inexpensive, especially when taking into account that there are multiple options to choose from.

Here are the lowest prices available as we write:

  • Twin: $399
  • Twin XL: $449
  • Full: $499
  • Queen: $599
  • King: $799
  • Cal King: $799

The prices above are for the all-foam 11″ version, which is the cheapest.

Warranty & Trial Period of the Cypress Memory Foam

Brentwood Home offers the same 25-year warranty with 1-year sleep trial period for its customers.

Compared to other similar brands in the industry, Brentwood does offer some of the longest warranties and trial periods.

This is a benefit to anyone interested in purchasing from them.

Cypress Memory Foam Review – Our Verdict

For budget shoppers looking for a couple of luxury options, the Cypress Memory Foam mattress might be a nice choice!

The Brentwood Home Cypres mattres from the front

Because it can be customized based on the top and construction, customers will be better able to find the mattress that suits their sleeping style rather than getting a cookie-cutter mattress.

As a mattress that has benefits to most sleepers, this is usually a good buy.
