The IDLE Hybrid is a bouncy mattress with two levels of firmness available.

Customers have the option of either using the same firmness on both sides or having one on each to be able to switch between.

By more than tripling the typical number of coils within the mattress, the IDLE Hybrid is one that will keep sleepers from feeling stuck in the mattress.

This will help encourage movement between sleeping positions throughout the night.

What Type of Mattress is the IDLE Hybrid Mattress?

As the name implies, this is a hybrid mattress that contains both foam and a coil system.

The IDLE Hybrid mattress utilized buoyancy foam with 1,000 support coils for a supportive cushion.

The mattress contains two sides for doubled life to get more out of the initial investment.

With two levels of firmness (medium and luxury firm), customers can choose their level of comfort.

How Firm is this Mattress?

The IDLE Hybrid comes in two different levels of firmness to cater to the different types of sleepers.

The luxury firm level is rated at about a 9 on the firmness scale and is better suited for heavier sleepers or stomach sleepers.

If you would prefer a firmer mattress, we recommend one of the IDLE All Natural Latex models.

On the other hand, the medium-firm level is rated at about a 6.5 on the firmness scale and caters more to side, back, and combo sleepers.

With the different types of firmness available, sleepers might also be interested in better pillow support in the IDLE Sleep Pillow as well.

How Many Layers Does it Have?

Because this mattress can be flipped, the number of layers is doubled within the mattress (even though they are the same design on each side).

the layers disectedStarting with the base layer of 6” of 1,000 individual coils, this is the portion of the mattress that offers the most support.

The next layer is a transition foam layer that leads into 2” of buoyancy foam for coolness and pressure relief.

After that comes an inch of quilted contouring foam blended into the cover and fire-resistant barrier.

The mattress is easily moved around with its side carry handles.

In Summary:

  1. The base layer of coils
  2. Cooling Buoyancy transition foam
  3. Quilted contouring Foam
  4. Fire-resistant barrier

Does the IDLE Hybrid Mattress Sleep Hot?

While the IDLE Hybrid does not offer as many cooling layers as the IDLE Plush, it does sleep fairly cool due to the individual coils and breathable foam.

Air should be able to move fairly well through the mattress, although for those that struggle with overheating at night the Hybrid might not be the most specialized mattress option for them.

Instead, people that overheat might look at a mattress like the IDLE Plush for better cooling technology.

How is Motion Transfer and Sinkage?

View of the IDLE Mattress being set upDue to the coils and buoyancy foam, the IDLE Hybrid does have quite a bit of motion transfer.

Couples will notice their partner moving about on the bed when switching sleeping positions or getting up.

While it does not have much sinkage because of the supportive layer of coils, this might not be the best IDLE option for couples.

Additionally, both sides of the mattress do not have good edge support for those that sleep close to the sides.

For couples searching for a mattress, we might recommend the IDLE Original or IDLE Plush instead.

Does the IDLE Hybrid Mattress Smell When New?

IDLE mattresses rarely smell when unboxing.

However, if there does seem to be some sort of chemical odor, leaving the mattress to decompress and off-gas for a few hours after opening should get rid of it.

Compared to other boxed mattresses, the IDLE Hybrid receives fewer complaints about odors.

Does it Require a Foundation?

While the IDLE Hybrid does require a foundation, it will work with pretty much any type someone would want to use.

In fact, IDLE mattresses are even compatible with box springs!

IDLE themselves have come out with some options for foundations to look into.

One of our favorites bases is the IDLE Adjustable Base.

Regardless of what you would like to use, it is important to use some form of the supportive base to keep your mattress in tip-top shape.

What Type of Cover does it Have?

a couple on the IDLE hybrid mattressThe IDLE Hybrid utilizes a fabric cover designed for thermal regulation.

It will keep sleepers warm when cold and cool when hot throughout the night for the best sleep.

This cover is quilted in with the layer of contouring foam underneath it as well, so it can’t be replaced.

How Durable is the IDLE Hybrid Mattress?

Like other IDLE mattresses, the IDLE Hybrid is expected to last quite a few years due to its strong materials and durable design.

Combined with the ability to flip the mattress over, the length of time sleepers will be able to use the mattress is effectively doubled.

As the leading double-sided luxury mattress, the IDLE Hybrid is well known for its strength and longevity.

How Much Does the IDLE Hybrid Mattress Cost?

Between the medium and luxury firm-level options, there is no price difference.

For a short time you can get a discount of 30%! Simply use our coupon code SPRING in your shopping cart to enjoy these prices:

SizeRegular PriceDiscounted Price
Twin:$1,041$729
Twin XL:$1,105$774

Queen:$1,420$994
King:$1,848$1,294
Cal King:$1,848$1,294
Split King:$1,999$1,399

When looking at similar hybrid mattresses, this seems to be a fairly average price.

However, most other hybrids do not have the option of being able to be flipped over for a longer life.

Warranty & Trial Period of the IDLE Hybrid Mattress

Like all IDLE mattresses, the IDLE Hybrid boasts a lengthy 18-month trial period and extensive lifetime warranty.

These are unmatched in the online boxed mattress industry and are a nice benefit for customers.

Additionally, IDLE offers free shipping and returns with financing options for all of their mattresses.

IDLE Hybrid Mattress Review – Our Verdict

As the first option with pocketed coils in the IDLE mattress lineup, the IDLE Hybrid is a nice mattress.

View of the IDLE Mattress with a woman on it

Especially for those looking to choose their firmness levels without sacrificing their budget.

While the mattress probably isn’t the best option for couples, it does cater very well to heavier sleepers, back sleepers, and stomach sleepers.

Unfortunately, that means the IDLE Hybrid should not be chosen for people that side sleepers as there just isn’t enough cushion to relieve the pressure off of their shoulders and hips.
