Studio by Leesa Mattress Review

Updated: June 16, 2020 by Sam Fisher

Studio by Leesa Ratings

  • Motion Isolation
  • Heat Dispersion
  • Lifespan

Summary

The Studio by Leesa Mattress is a considerably-good option for those who want the most value possible.

Compared to other foam beds on the market, this one has an affordable price.

However, one of the biggest drawbacks we notice is the limit on weight.

The heavier the sleeper is, the more uncomfortable they should expect the mattress to be because of how far they will sink in.

Pros:

  • Affordable memory foam bed - Queen size is offered at just $799
  • One mattress donated for each 10 sold
  • Medium-firmness
  • 10-year warranty
  • 100-night trial period

Cons:

  • Heavier sleepers have a harder time with this mattress

The Studio by Leesa mattress is a budget-friendly memory foam bed in a box mattress for average and lightweight sleepers.

As a no-frills option for sleepers of many different positions, this is a good option for those looking for a simple, quality mattress.

Although the Studio by Leesa is a newer release, the Leesa brand is known for offering suitable comfort and support for many years.

This mattress is the cheapest offering available in its line.

However, the Leesa Original, Leesa Hybrid, and Leesa Legend all have their benefits to different types of sleepers looking for a more specialized mattress.

What Type of Mattress is the Studio by Leesa Mattress?

The Studio by Leesa mattress is an affordable all-foam construction made in the U.S.

The Sutdio by Leesa mattress

Its focus is on providing all-around comfort and support at a budget-friendly price.

The Leesa brand is B Corp certified and does not use any heavy metals, formaldehyde, or ozone depleters in the Studio by Leesa mattress.

How Firm is this Mattress?

Because the Studio by Leesa is a memory foam mattress, sleepers should expect a pretty firm feel.

We would rate it at about a 7.5 on the firmness scale of 1 to 10 (10 being very firm).

Compared to other similar online boxed mattresses, this is quite a bit more firm than the standard.

Although designed for all types of sleepers, we believe that stomach and combo sleepers will not like it as much as others.

Stomach sleepers would probably need more spinal alignment support.

Combo sleepers need more bounciness in a mattress so they do not feel stuck in one position through the night.

How Many Layers Does it Have?

The Studio by Leesa mattress has three layers, starting with a 7” layer of thick foam for a supportive base.

The next layer is a transition polyfoam layer from the base to the focus of the mattress, and measures at about 1.5”.The mattress in a room with its shipping box

This layer prevents people from sinking too far into the layers.

The next layer is another 1.5” of foam, this time of memory foam for the most comfortable of the layers.

It can contour slightly while supporting sleepers.

On top of the comfort layer is the cover, which is a blend of polyester and spandex.

As one can tell, this mattress is not all that tall compared to other types of basic mattresses.

In summary:

  1. 7-inch support foam
  2. Transition polyfoam
  3. 1.5-inch breathable & responsive memory foam.

Does the Studio by Leesa Mattress Sleep Hot?

Since this mattress is constructed of some pretty dense foams, it is not a good option for those that overheat frequently at night.

Memory foam is notorious for trapping heat and the Studio by Leesa mattress is no different.

There are no breathable layers or aerated coils are included.

Anyone looking for a specifically cool mattress might try the Leesa Hybrid or the Leesa Legend mattress.

How is Motion Transfer and Sinkage?

As a memory foam mattress, the Studio by Leesa can absorb most motion transfer.

The Studio by Leesa with a dog

On the other hand, this mattress does have quite a bit of sinkage, meaning many people will feel that they are “stuck” in it.

For anyone more than 230 pounds, sinkage can be uncomfortable in this mattress as they might start to feel the uncomfortable base supporting them.

Edge support is lacking quite a bit in the Studio by Leesa as well.

Does the Studio by Leesa Mattress Smell When New?

Many mattresses emit chemical smells when first unpackaged, and the Studio by Leesa is, unfortunately, no different.

With an all-foam composition, this is not surprising.

However, they do focus on reducing their use of many types of chemicals.

However, getting rid of the smell can be simple by just letting the mattress air out for a day before using it.

Does it Require a Foundation?

This mattress is recommended to have some sort of strong foundation underneath.

People can use platforms, slatted bases, or even box springs as a foundation for their Studio by Leesa mattress.

If you are looking to stay within the brand, you might consider purchasing the Leesa Foundation or the Leesa Platform bed.

Or, we also have a list of our top 5 adjustable bases!

What Type of Cover does it Have? The Studio by Leesa label

On top of the Studio by Leesa mattress is a cover made of a blend of Lycra spandex and polyester.

It focuses on comfort and softness while still offering a durable composition.

While it can be removed, it is not recommended to be machine washed.

How Durable is the Studio by Leesa Mattress?

Although the Studio by Leesa mattress is quite new, we expect it to have the typical lifespan of a boxed mattress – around seven years.

Memory foam mattresses, when constructed well, tend to last quite a while before needing to be replaced.

We do not see anything that would indicate otherwise with the Studio by Leesa.

How Much Does the Studio by Leesa Mattress Cost?

At just $799 for Queen size, this mattress is one of the cheaper options for the same features in the online market.

The mattress prices as we write are as follows:

  • Twin: $599
  • Twin XL: $649
  • Full: $699
  • Queen: $799
  • King: $999
  • Cal King: $999

For anyone looking for a decent mattress on a budget, this is a good mattress to choose from.

Those looking for some special features or higher quality material makeup might consider the Leesa Original, Hybrid, or Legend.

The coverWarranty & Trial Period of the Studio by Leesa Mattress

Leesa offers a 10-year warranty that covers any defects that might show up and does not require a deductible.

The brand also offers a 100-night trial period for customers to try out their mattresses before settling on it.

This warranty and trial period are fairly standard across the industry, although they do donate a bed to someone in need for every 10 sold.

Studio by Leesa Mattress Review – Our Verdict

While the Studio by Leesa mattress is not the most specialized mattress available, it does seem to be a decent basic mattress option.

In terms of price, there are few other mattresses that one would choose over the Studio.

While there is not a lot of technology or features built into the Studio by Leesa, it would be a good first-time mattress buy that can later be upgraded to one of the better Leesa options down the road.
