The Tulo mattress is the brainchild of Mattress Firm – America’s largest mattress retailer.
It came at a time when bedding manufacturers were looking for ways to enter the ‘bed-in-a-box’ market sphere.
In recent years, the company addressed consumer affordability concerns with the launch of their budget model, the Tulo Liv.
The Liv features trademarked LumaGel technology to facilitate natural airflow and may very well be one of the most economically priced foam mattresses available – starting at only $490 for a twin mattress.
The mattress is rated 6.5 on the firmness scale and comes with a risk-free 120 day trial period.
US shoppers enjoy 2-day FREE shipping.
What Type of Mattress is the Tulo Liv?
As the budget-friendly solution in the increasingly popular Tulo line-up, the Liv is a triple layer foam-combo mattress that features 9″ of proprietary materials.
Patented LumaGel technology adjusts seamlessly to the weight of the body to provide the right amount of firmness and support.
The mattress rivals similar medium firm mattresses but is capable of providing both support and extra cushion depending on how bodyweight is distributed.
The Liv utilizes a universal design, making it suitable for side, back and stomach sleepers.
How Firm is the Mattress? Will I Get a Good Nights Sleep?
The bed rates a 6.5 out of 10 on the firmness scale, making it a decent ‘medium’ firm mattress.
More importantly, patented gel foam technology help to promote airflow, keeping the mattress cool and smelling fresh.
Those who have sleep-tested the Liv have reported a noticeable decrease in pre-existing sleep-related back and muscle pains.
Having said that, at just 9″ thick, the mattress is thinner than most other foam beds. It may not be a suitable long-term solution for heavier individuals (those over 250lbs.)
What About Motion Transfer? Will I Wake My Partner if I Roll Over?
As can be expected of any great foam mattress, there is really no noticeable motion transfer.
The dense foam layers of the Tulo Liv efficiently absorb motion while the gel-infused top layer eliminates vibrations at the source.
Whether you wake frequently, change sleeping positions during the night, or have a different sleep schedule than the person you share a bed with you aren’t likely to disturb your partner’s sleep by moving around on the bed.
How Are the Layers of the Tulo Liv?
The bed is constructed of three layers of high quality foam. Taken directly from the manufacturers website, the layers are:
- The first layer is made of LumaGel; a highly breathable, open-cell structured gel infusion that provides temperature regulation and pressure point relief.
- The second layer – the Support Layer – promises to ‘end tossing and turning with a layer that lifts you up and is totally durable.’
- The third layer – the Foundation Layer – provides 5″ of foam support.
The Liv comes with a breathable, easy to clean soft knitted mattress cover.
Does the Mattress Sleep Hot?
It isn’t uncommon for foam mattresses to sleep warm. However, the Tulo Liv endeavors to combat this through the use of proprietary materials.
The LumaGel top layer controls and regulates temperature while the open-cell foam core allows air to flow freely through the mattress, keeping it cool even when ambient or body temperatures rise.
What About Off-Gassing? Does the Mattress Smell?
The mattress is manufactured and shipped within America – And arrives in as little as 2 days.
Most purchasers report no off-gassing whatsoever. Those with sensitivities to smell might notice a slight odor from the packaging materials used to ship the mattress.
This should dissipate completely is under twelve hours.
In any case, Tulo foams are CeriPUR-US certified, guaranteeing nothing toxic will pollute your home environment.
How Long will the Mattress Last?
Most foam mattresses have a lifespan of 8 to 10 years. Given that the Liv is slightly denser than traditional foam beds, it seems fair to assume that the lifespan of the bed would be more in the 6 to year range.
The mattress comes with a 10 year limited warranty that protects against manufacturers defects.

Tulo Liv Mattress Review – Our Verdict
We were impressed by the versatility and durability of a foam mattress that comes with a price tag as low as $590 for Queen.
It arrives quickly and, in some cases, delivery staff will bring the mattress into your home, unbox it, set it up and haul away your old mattress at no additional cost.
Despite being a thinner foam mattress, it doesn’t amplify heat or lose compression – that says a lot about a bed that is only 9″ thick.
What we question, however, is how well the bed will support larger individuals or even couples. Several reviewers commented on it not being the ideal sleep solution for anyone over 250lbs.
When you consider a couple where the wife might be 125lbs and the husband might be 175lbs, or even a 125lb female and a 100lb Great Dane – Will the mattress be capable of sustaining the weight without compromise? We don’t know.
We also didn’t fall in love with the 10 year limited warranty. Most of the best mattress manufacturers (and even some of the less popular brands) offer better terms, with Nectar and Puffy even extending coverage for the entire owner’s lifetime, but at the budget price of the mattress, we aren’t surprised to hear that the warranty caps out after 10 years.
