In this review, we look at WRIGHT’s first release: The W1.27. As the first of the new direct-to-consumer brands to service more premium customers, WRIGHT carries a strong reputation of thoughtfully designed products, quality materials and stellar customer service, which is reflected in their reviews online and off.
The virtual absence of complaints online is an achievement shared by very few mattress manufacturers.
The W1.27 is an impressive combination of foam materials that we found to actually keep you cool, comfortable, and fully supported.
The combination of proprietary cooling and support foams work together well to provide a different feel than the other online mattress brands.
What Type of Mattress Is the W1.27?
The WRIGHT W1.27 is a multi-layer memory foam mattress, combining four layers of proprietary foam materials to offer a perfect combination of comfort, support, responsiveness, and temperature control.
The top layer of high density memory foam is infused with heat conductive gel particles to draw heat away from your body and keep you cool all night long. The 2nd and 3rd layers feature a unique foam material with reinforced cell superstructures that provide improved responsiveness and durability.
How Firm Is the WRIGHT W1.27 Mattress?
The W1.27 is only available in one comfort level: Medium Firm – a 6.5 out of 10 in terms of firmness.
The W1.27 combines a plush top layer with increasingly stiffer and firmer lower layers.
The initial feel is quite soft, providing supreme comfort, but the firmer base layers provide full body support and ensure that the sleeper does not sink into the mattress.
The WRIGHT design team tested different firmness levels extensively, using real sleep tracking data to determine the optimal firmness to support deep sleep.
This combination of comfort and support enables sleepers to drift off to sleep easily, and then to stay deeply asleep all night long with minimal tossing and turning.
How are Motion Transfer and Sinkage?
The W1.27 has very minimal motion transfer. With four layers of premium foam there’s almost no disturbance felt across the bed.
Edge support is fairly standard for a foam mattress – not as supportive on the edge as a traditional coil mattress, with standard feel across the entire surface of the product.
How is the W1.27 Layered?
The W1.27 mattress is made up of 4 layers, and it’s clear that this mattress has been designed with the highest quality materials throughout.
The layers are:
- 1.5” of 4lb Memory Foam infused with cooling phase change materials encased in cooling gel.
- 2” of 3lb proprietary foam with thicker and more durable cell walls.
- 1.5” of 5lb proprietary foam with thicker and more durable cell walls.
- 6” of support foam
The WRIGHT W1.27 is 11” thick in total.
Does the WRIGHT W1.27 Mattress Sleep Hot?
The W1.27 does not sleep hot. The top foam layer is infused with phase change gel material that conducts heat away from the body that it can disperse. The mattress is also fully breathable and ventilated.
In fact, the WRIGHT design team tested this mattress versus other leading foam mattresses and found that the W1.27 actually sleeps about three degrees cooler.
That’s the difference between sleeping comfortably and tossing and turning all night.
How Long Will the Mattress Last?
The W1.27 is built in the USA, and made from the highest quality products available on the market.
WRIGHT has extensively tested the mattress for durability, and offers a 15 year full-replacement guarantee that covers any softening or sagging (more below).
On the mattress firmness rating test (technically called ASTM F 1566-08 Section 6B) the W1.27 lost only 4% firmness after a durability test that simulated 10 years of use with a 240lb weight.
Anything less than 5% change is imperceptible.
When the height was measured after the same test – it was found that the total height lost after 10 years of simulated use was .5% or exactly 0.061”.
This means that the W1.27 will hold up much better than almost any mattress available online.
Does It Smell When New?
The W1.27 has a slight initial smell due to the bed’s construction method, but will dissipate in a couple of hours in a ventilated room.
WRIGHT’s American-made foams are CertiPUR-US certified, which means that the foam has gone through a rigorous independent testing and approval process to ensure that it’s clean and free of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), which are the particles that might be toxic for your health.
How Big Is the WRIGHT W1.27 Mattress?
The mattress sizes currently available cover the standard dimensions:
Twin: 38”x 75”
Twin XL: 38”x 80”
Full: 54”x 75”
Queen: 60”x 80”
King: 76”x 80”
California King: 72”x 84”
The height is 11”.
The W1.27 is shipped in one of two ways: unlike other online mattresses, the W1.27 is delivered and installed in your home for free, within 4 to 9 days. WRIGHT will also remove and recycle your old mattress if you do not want it, for absolutely no charge.
However, if you want it sooner, you can opt for the usual free shipping, by which the mattress is compressed (vacuumed) and arrives in a box that measures 21 x 21 x 40”. Then it can be easily transported within the house by two person, although in most cases a person can do it alone.
Does It Need A Foundation Or A Bed Frame?
The company says the mattress will work on any stable surface, including platform beds, box springs or foundations, or bed slats.
If placed on the floor, it’s important that the surface is even and without humidity, which could damage the mattress from below.
Comfort Guarantee with the 120 Night Trial
WRIGHT stands behind their products with a 120 Night trial. Within that time customers can make returns or exchanges, with no questions asked, and no restocking or processing fees.
If you decide to return your mattress WRIGHT will come pick it up and their expense and refund 100% of your money – no other charges, whatsoever.
If it is your first time testing a memory foam mattress, and you’re not sure, this can be a great way to try it out.
Aside from this worry-free trial, they have an excellent customer support (1-800-240-5203).
WRIGHT guarantees their mattresses against defect or deterioration for 15 years. If the mattress breaks down in that time, they will replace it for a new one.
This coverage includes any material change to the mattress that impacts its performance, including any sagging or indentations of more than 0.5”.
As usual, stains and surface discolorations are not covered.
How Do I Care for the WRIGHT W1.27 Mattress?
In case you need to store the mattress for a long time, you have to lay it flat and never on the side or folded as it would compromise the structure.
If you decide to use a mattress cover or topper, it should be a breathable one with a minimal amount of padding, as it trap heat and work against the cooling features of the W1.27.
How Much Does the W1.27 Cost?
Considering the quality of all materials and the amount of research that was spent on this premium mattress, we deem the price between $1,395 (for Twin) and $2,195 (for California King) to be quite reasonable.
Again, it’s a good price compared to the most other mattresses of similar manufacture.
WRIGHT W1.27 Mattress Review – Our Verdict
The WRIGHT W1.27 mattress is a superior multi-layer memory foam mattress, in a different class than most boxed mattresses sold online.
The combination of specialty foam layers provide an unmatched balance of comfort, support, responsiveness, and temperature control.
Since launching, this mattress has garnered fantastic customer reviews (4.96 / 5 stars) and glowing press coverage at the national level.
The price is certainly higher than most bed-in-a-box products, but for customers looking for a higher-quality product that will last, the W1.27 is a great choice.
